Jay and I were watching the news tonight (I think that it was NBC, but I'm not sure, we were just watching the end of it as we waited for another show to start), and they had a snippet about the release of the movie "Twilight". According to the story, thousands of teenage fans had lined up for the midnight showing of this movie and it is expected to earn back it's entire budget in the first weekend. That's all fine and good, but the thing that bothered me is that it is being described as "The New Harry Potter".
Now let me make this very clear: there will never be another Harry Potter. In my opinion, there will never be a phenomenom even similar to Harry Potter. Harry Potter was about magic, and a variety of magical creatures; Twilight is about teenaged vampires. Similar, sure, but the next Harry Potter? I beg to differ.
My loyalty stretches as far as this: I refuse to read "Twilight", I will not watch the movie "Twilight", and I will never compare the two to eachother. I'm sure that "Twilight" is great in it's own way, but it's not Harry Potter.
Note: I realize that this is a very biased opinion, and that I really should read the book before I judge it. I'm sure that the book itself is very good, but I'm blogging, which is an opinion thing, so I guessing it's allowed.
